I switched from Roam to Obsidian a few weeks ago, I’ve been happy! I definitely enjoy the Zettlekasten method.

Awesome! I've looked into Roam, but have never tried it. I've been committed to Obsidian for almost four years now. What have you found is the biggest difference between the two?

Without going into too much detail, I think Obsidian is more mobile friendly and has a better user experience. I access my notes from my phone way more frequently than I do on my laptop so the mobile experience is important.

Roam is $15/mo and Obsidian is $4/mo if you pay for Sync (if you want to access your notes across phone and laptop). I can access Obsidian more easily if I’m in area with no Wi-Fi/poor internet because the notes are stored locally on device vs the Cloud like Roam.

Those are my biggest reasons!

I concur. Plus, Obsidian has loads of plugins which work on the phone as well.

I haven’t even gotten fancy with the plugins yet, the only one I used was to transfer my Roam notes. What plugins do you like?

I used to use a lot. Nowadays, I just use Smart Topography and Style Settings. The former makes it so when you type quotes, an arrow like this (->), fractions, or something like <=, it'll convert it into it's proper symbol. Style Settings enables you to change the font, colors, and overall style of Obsidian more easily. These are both nice to haves, really.

Tag Wrangler is another good plugin. It creates an index of all of your tags in Obsidian for you. If you work with tags a lot, this helps a ton.

A lot of the plugins I used to use became actual features in Obsidian. E.g. Stacked Tabs—which makes it so your pages "stack" on top of each other kind of like index cards that you can scroll through. But, that is more useful on desktop.
